Once relegated to the likes of Bose, and costing several hundreds of dollars, active noise cancelling headphones are quickly becoming a commodity item from lower end brands.

We decided to check out the top of the line offering from Motorola to see if they can hold their weight against the more expensive options.

What we liked

Can we please declare Micro USB obsolete and USB-C all the things?

  • Comfortable earcups isolate sound and block a moderate amount of noise event with ANC turned off.
  • Included 3.5mm audio cable lets you plug in even when the battery is drained.
  • Noise cancelling switch operates even when headphones are powered off (great for airplane naps).

What we didn’t like

  • No tension adjustment left my ears aching slightly after less than an hour. YMMV.
  • Micro USB instead of USB-C. Will micro USB ever die?

What was meh

  • 12 hours battery life with ANC on is decent, but not groundbreaking.
  • Active noise cancellation honestly filters out only about 30% of background noise.
  • Included case is cheap, but honestly better than the EarPods case.
  • Overall build is fair with a mix of plastic and aluminum.
  • Earcups only swivel in one direction, making it impossible to fold earphones into the most compact size for travel.
