If you’ve been smoking the good stuff and you want to make sure you’re going to get the most enjoyment out of your smoking regimen then I say the Dr. Dabber Switch is a knockout to all your problems. Electric dab rigs are the smoothest, most flavorful, and some of the most fun ways you can hit your bong these days. Some of them are sold as just nails that you attach to your regular piece but Dr. Dabber took it a step farther and re-created the entire system.

The Dr. Dabber Switch is straight up the best thing I’ve ever done a dab out of. I’ve had friends tell me they’ve hit thousand dollar pieces before and the Dr. Dabber is still the best hit they’ve ever had. You can tell the design team took a good long look at what the ‘perfect’ electric dab machine should be before rushing into any productions. The shape is very stable and still attractive. It has a wide base that you hold onto that definitely feels nice and secure when you hold it. If you used a smaller electric rig before, let’s say a Dr Dabber Boost Black or a Sutra machine, then you’re familiar with the feeling of trying to do your dab while it feels like you struggle to hold a small bouquet of daisies or attempt to shake hands with a cat. Not the Switch, whose base is easily thicker than my wrist. I haven’t dropped this thing once the entire time I’ve had it.

Even though I never used the function the Dr. Dabber Switch is actually capable of smoking regular bowls of herb. Which sounds awesome until you smoke one bowl and your dabs taste like resin for the next week and a half. Gross. I only tried it once and decided it was now for dabs only.

The Switch also has a lot of color options for the light show it puts on in idle mode. Each time you click the button the light turns red until it’s at the temperature you set, which usually takes about five seconds. Then the light goes green and stays green for the duration of the heating cycle so it’s easy to tell when to start and when to stop. Dr. Dabber also has some different glass pieces you can purchase if you want, and will often release limited edition Switches and fun electroplated glass bubblers.

Occasionally I’ll get a hankering for a traditional flame heated dab but it’s never as satisfying as hitting the Switch. There are over a dozen different heat settings for you to change to personal taste and dab type and it gets it perfect every time. The induction cup sits in the bottom of the glass base. The way it was designed keeps all the electronics completely inaccessible and instead uses the induction method to heat the bowl; it also has a safety feature that can detect the bowl and will refuse to heat if it’s not correctly in place. It has it’s own charging cable that plugs directly into the base. No more switching out batteries.

When you use this I promise you will taste your dab more, have an easier hit, and you will be able to enjoy it in its entirety. The Switch wastes nothing. You might cough less, I certainly don’t but everyone else I’ve let use seems to be able to hold it together better than I do. My bad.

Speaking of ‘my bad’s… I did knock it off a table once. But just like a champ it showed no signs of concern. Still functioned perfectly and none of the thick glass shattered. That’s definitely a plus.

If I had to point out any faults in the product it would be one of two things. Either the absolutely horrible design for the cap or the price of replacements. First, the cap. I’ve broken so many. I ordered around four before I gave up and just started using the broken ones. Now the fault lies in the grip part of the cap. Shaped like a simple upside down T, the place where you hold it is so fragile it’s a joke. It creates weight where it doesn’t need any and shifts the point of gravity making toppling very likely. A plus is that after all four of them broke they still functioned well and have been dropped many times since then and still work well. So as long as you don’t mind putting a glob of glue or something on the broken glass piece so you don’t cut yourself and just use a flat cap, well then welcome to the club. If you do mind then you might have a hard time finding one.

So don’t get me wrong, the Dr. Dabber Switch is very expensive. Base model starts at $400 and if you want a different glass attachment then you’ll probably be paying around a hundred for it. I bought this a few years back and I’ve probably spent over a hundred myself on caps and ceramic induction bowls but it still holds up and has never faltered. I’ve enjoyed countless hits off of my Switch at the perfect temperature and taste. If you have the money to spend then I definitely recommend grabbing one. Or by all means, keep burning your dab.
